Episode #112: We’re Not Just Two of Your Many Toys

Saturday, February 28th, 2015

Sometimes themes get in the way so we’re done with them for a while and can present a more familiar mess. Covers, Coke, new music from Bob Dylan, a show tune, Sam Phillips, the Stones, weird indie stuff, a little tribute to Lesley Gore, and a farewell song from Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Plus a little more. That’s more like it.

Episode #111: We Can’t Let It Go and Neither Can You

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

One more theme show (enough already!) and we’ll let you go in peace. This time we present actual music from actual movies. Every one of these selections comes right out of the soundtrack of a movie. Collectively we’ve seen all these movies. Maybe. We didn’t really compare notes. But we chose the music and we talked about it and we rushed this out in time for the Academy Awards ceremony.

But we won’t mind if you listen at a later date. We’ll only mind if you don’t listen at all, You’d only be harming yourself. These songs are entertaining!

Episode #110: Cheer Up, It Might Never Happen

Saturday, February 14th, 2015

There is no shortage of sad songs in the world. Once again we try to demonstrate that in this, our third annual (annual!) Sad Songs program. Hear dreadfully sad hymns, show tunes, instrumentals, ballads, pop tunes, folk tunes, movie tunes, and then there’s Beck. And more. It’s enough to make you frown. But in the end we give you a recipe for happiness pie that should make everything all right again.

Download it and weep. Please.

Episode #109: These People Are Not from Liverpool

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

How well we remember that day, 51 years ago, when The Beatles came to America! It was a cold February but even then we knew that, many years in the future, we would host a podcast of such popularity that we could afford to break form once in a while and pay tribute to those lads by playing their songs as performed by other people. So that’s what we’re doing this week. We’ve done it before, and, who knows? Maybe we’ll do it again some day.
